JUDGES LISTS (January 1 2024-December 31 2024)
A3 List/Grandfathering Application
In July the Club agreed to comply with the KC requirement that Breed Clubs bring their A3 criteria into line with the KC A3 criteria in order to facilitate Grandfathering applications/end of traditional judges lists - they have now moved the goal posts.
With effect from 16.09.2024 Grandfathering applicants need to be on 50% of breed clubs A3 lists, having been approved by at least 12 cocker spaniel breed clubs (there are 23 Cocker Breed clubs). Cocker Club A3 applicants are approved by the Committee, whereas Breed Council A3 applicants are circulated to the Breed Club Council members for their approval.
For a Grandfather application you will therefore need to comply with the Breed Council A3 List criteria and make an application to be included on their A3 List.

THE KENNEL CLUB JUDGES EDUCATION PROGRAMME (JEP – BREED SHOWS) 01.01.2026
The traditional Judges Lists and JEP currently run in tandem. With effect from 01.01.2026 the KC JEP (Breed Shows) will become the sole judge’s educational programme and the Kennel Club will hold the Lists and be responsible for the education of judges.
The regulations and criteria for the Judges Education Programme are available on the KC Website: https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/events-and-activities/dog-showing/judging-dog-shows/
JEP educational Levels 1, 2 and 3 are to be fulfilled before the final Breed Specific Assessment, run by the Kennel Club, which completes the route to Level 4 and awarding CC’s in the breed - completion of Level 1 being the requirement for all aspiring judges before they are able to carry out any judging appointment.
Levels 1-4:
- The Criteria for each Level must be completed in full before undertaking any element of the next Level, apart from a concession regarding the ‘Criteria and Stewarding KC On-Line quizzes’ required for Level 2, which may be undertaken before reaching Level 2;
- Stewarding must be undertaken in full to complete Level 3, but may be completed at any time;
- The three Level 3 Mentoring sessions must be completed with at least 12 months between first and third session;
- The Mentoring sessions must be completed before an Observation may take place.
KC Academy - The online platform where judges will be able to upload their evidence of learning, register for and move through the various Levels is not yet available. Once this facility is launched the Kennel Club will make an announcement, however at the time of writing they cannot give an estimate of when this will be.
The Judges Education Programme (Breed Shows) came into effect on 1 January 2021 and judges are required to comply with the relevant criteria in order to undertake judging appointments, in line with Kennel Club F Regulations.
It is the responsibility of the judge to ensure they meet the necessary criteria before any judging appointments are undertaken.
INTERIM JEP LEVEL 1 AND LEVEL 2:

If you would like to be included on the Cocker Spaniel Club “Interim” Judges List (JEP Level 1 or Level 2) , please complete the Application form and forward it to the Judges Lists Administrator, together with the relevant Certificates, for confirmation by the CSC Committee when they next meet.

A3 JUDGES LIST – JEP LEVELS 3 AND 4 (2026)
With effect from 01.01.2026 Judges who have already been approved to award CC’s, including KC A2 Listed and approved Grandfathering, will be transferred to JEP Level 4.
Judges who are listed A3 but who have not received an invitation to award CC’s are encouraged to make use of the “Grandfathering” route – details available on the KC Website: https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/events-and-activities/dog-showing/judging-dog-shows/
If approved via this route they will be Listed at JEP Level 4.
Any A3 listed Judge without an approved appointment, as at 01.01.2026, will be required to complete JEP Level 3 criteria before they may progress and confirmed JEP Level 4.
The Cocker Spaniel Club Judges Lists from 01.01.2026
From 1st January 2026, although the Club will no longer be responsible for the education of our Specialist judges and judges who are particular enthusiasts of the Breed, we will continue to maintain and publish the List of Judges who Award CC’s in the Breed.
The Committee is also keen to support and promote Specialists and enthusiasts who are progressing through the initial JEP Levels 1 and 2.
To that end it is intended to publish preferred Lists in order to assist Breed Clubs and General Societies to source judges with suitable experience for their Open Shows.
