The trial was run on rabbits on the moor above Castle Bolton. The judges were Andy Robinson and Steve Winspear. Despite the wet weather it was a fantastic trial with fifty rabbits shot by lunchtime. All the handlers had the opportunity to have flushes and retrieves. However, the number of rabbits was the downfall of some of the dogs who chased rabbits on the way out or on the way back from retrieves. Some spectacular chases took place, with handlers in hot pursuit of their dog!
The winner’s dog showed her steadiness by having four flushes and retrieves, and ignoring game which was flushed as she retrieved her rabbits.
The guns were superb, hardly missing anything.

The Cocker Spaniel Club (Field Trial Section) held an Open and Novice Stake at Bowhill on 7th and 8th October 2011.
The keeper was Andrew Donnachie and the Cocker Club provided the four experienced guns to shoot at each trial.
Andrew and his team of beaters and stops gave us two fantastic days. Each trial was held in thick white grass and rushes which held the birds really well. All the competitors had the opportunity for numerous flushes and retrieves and such was the supply of birds that each trial was finished by lunchtime.
The guns were expert at shooting over dogs and hardly anything was missed.
The club would like to thank Andrew and his team for all their hard work, and also the shoot manager Roy Green and the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry who very kindly allowed us to use the ground at Bowhill.
